As the Christmas season draws near and we approach the end of the year, I find myself reflecting on the past 12 months—a year full of both beautiful moments and difficult challenges. It's been a year of growth, travel, joy, and love, but also one of heartache and personal struggles.
The year began with so much promise and excitement. There was love and happiness in abundance with my family and with Wes. We traveled, creating memories in new places, enjoying new experiences, and feeling truly grateful for all that life had to offer. I had dreams of ending the year with a big belly, eating cookies for two, and spending the last months planning for the arrival of our new family member. But sometimes life doesn’t go as planned. Sometimes, we experiences devastating losses. And unfortunately, grief has shaped the closing of this year in ways I never could have anticipated.
Amidst the joy and excitement, I’ve also dealt with body image issues, feeling insecure in my own skin, especially now recovering from our loss. It’s been a tough internal battle, struggling with self-love and acceptance. Some days, it felt like it would be easier to focus on what I lacked instead of embracing all that I am. But through it all, I've been reminded that life is beautiful—even in its hardest moments.
I know this time of year is hard for so many people, and I’m no stranger to the heaviness it can bring. There are those who are grieving, feeling lonely, or struggling with personal challenges. And yet, I try my best to focus on the good—the love, the support, the moments that make life so precious. Even in the midst of the tough times, I’m aware of the many blessings that surround me.
I have so much to be thankful for: a supportive family that has been my rock through every up and down, a partner like Wes who stands by me unconditionally, the gift of my health, and the best friends anyone could ask for. These are the things that truly matter, the things that make life worth living, no matter what obstacles we may face.
As the year wraps up and we gather with loved ones to celebrate, I’m reminded of what truly makes this season special. It’s not about the gifts or the decorations. It’s about the people—the relationships we nurture, the love we give and receive, and the memories we create together. It’s about being present and mindful, appreciating the simple moments of connection and joy.
If you find this season difficult, know that you’re not alone. It’s okay to acknowledge the struggles, but it’s also important to find moments of gratitude, no matter how small. Here are a few things I am trying to stay mindful of during this busy and sometimes overwhelming time of year:
*Even in tough times, take a moment each day to reflect on what you are thankful for. Whether it’s your health, a kind word from a friend, or a simple moment of peace, focusing on gratitude can shift your perspective.
*Whether it's a big holiday gathering or a quiet moment with a close friend, being with those who matter most can bring warmth to your heart. Let your relationships be a reminder of the beauty in life.
*Amid the hustle and bustle, make time for self-care. Whether it’s a quiet walk, a warm bath, or a few minutes of meditation, nurturing yourself is crucial for staying grounded.
*It’s easy to get caught up in the chaos of the season, but try to stay present in the moment. Enjoy the laughter, the conversations, and the little things that make this time of year so special.
*Things may not always go as planned, and that’s okay. Embrace the imperfections and remember that life is not about perfection, but about embracing the journey with an open heart.
As this year comes to a close, I look forward to what the new year will bring. There will likely be more challenges to face, but there will also be more love, joy, and growth. Life is a beautiful journey, even with its ups and downs, and I am so grateful for all the wonderful people in my life.
So, as we enter this holiday season, let's take a moment to remember what it’s truly about: love, connection, and gratitude. No matter what the year has held for you, I hope you find moments of peace and joy with those who matter most.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, filled with love, light, and new beginnings.
With love,
Meg
