Chicken Enchiladas and Chosen Family

Recently Wes and I had dinner at a couple’s home—friends who have become more like family. It was one of those evenings that felt effortless, filled with laughter, great conversation, and the kind of company that makes you feel truly understood. Nights like these remind us how grateful we are to have people in our lives who share our values, our outlook on life, and the desire to grow together.

But if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that friendships like these don’t just happen—they require intention. Life gets busy. Between work, family, responsibilities, and everything in between, it’s easy to let weeks (or months) pass without making time for the people who matter. That’s why we’re learning to be more intentional about nurturing these relationships.

Here are some simple ways to be intentional with like-minded friends:

Schedule regular get-togethers. Life won’t slow down on its own, so put plans on the calendar—whether it’s dinner, a workout, or just grabbing coffee.

Check in, even when you’re busy. A quick text, a voice memo, or a spontaneous phone call can mean a lot.

Celebrate each other. Birthdays, milestones, and even small wins deserve recognition. Be the friend who cheers others on.

Be present. When you do spend time together, put away distractions and truly be there.

Support each other’s growth. Like-minded friends aren’t just fun to be around—they challenge and inspire you. Encourage each other’s goals, whether it’s fitness, business, or personal growth.

And of course, don’t underestimate the power of a great meal shared with good company. Sarah made the best skillet chicken enchiladas—seriously, we’re still talking about them! We left with full bellies and even fuller hearts, reminded once again how lucky we are to have people to share these moments with.

Friendships like these make life richer, but they don’t flourish by accident. Being intentional—especially in the busy seasons—ensures that the people who matter most stay a meaningful part of your journey. And for that, we are beyond grateful.
